Cambodia is a small nation ringed by mountains and lies on the peninsula of Southeast Asia between Viet Nam and Thailand.  About half of the land is tropical mountain forests covered by dense foliage.  The central part of Cambodia abounds with grassy foothills, rolling plains and lush lowlands.  Monsoon rains arrive in July and by October one fifth of the land is covered in water.  As the water recedes it leaves behind fertile soil for abundant crops and the largest fish harvest in the world.
Over a thousand years ago Cambodia was a great civilization that once controlled all of what we know as Indo China.  It was a land of splendor that supported a sophisticated society and inspired the construction of immense, lavishly carved architectural wonders of the world.  The magnificent ruins of Anger Wat tell of the vanished glory of this once powerful empire.
In 1975 tragedy fell upon the country when the Khmer Rouge took control of Cambodia resulting in the systematic annihilation of 50% of the population.  Even though Cambodia is now a democracy the impact of this horrendous genocide is still present making Cambodia the third poorest country in the world.
The beautiful people of Cambodia have a resilient spirit and are striving to work their way out of the dire poverty forced upon them and to regain the culture that was so brutally stolen from their hearts, and their very soles.
