Child Citizenship Act of 2000

CONGRATULATIONS to the many children who received automatic citizenship as a result of the Child Citizenship Act that became effective February 27, 2001.  However, it is important to note that not all children who are adopted internationally receive automatic citizenship.

In order to benefit from the Child Citizenship Act BOTH parents must have physically seen the child before the adoption was finalized.  If BOTH parents did not physically see the child before the adoption was finalized it is extremely important to get US citizenship for your child.  You can do this by refinalizing the adoption in your state.
