Michael and I have always loved and wanted children. But, after a few years of battling infertility, we decided to pray about adoption. We prayed to God, that if we were supposed to adopt, that He would open the doors for us. He opened that door in a big and surprising way. We traveled to Ha Tinh, the poorest province in Viet Nam, this past April to adopt our baby boy, Matthew Cam. We were surprised to be going in April, since we had just started the process a few months before in January. Needless to say, our life has been a whirlwind since the beginning of the year.

Matthew is definitely the apple of our eye. I love him just like I would if I had given birth to him. It's been fun watching him grow and learn these past few months. He's our special baby. Over the past few days, I've come to love two children's books: one is Over the Moon and the other is Through Moon and Stars and Night Skies. I hope that, as Matthew grows older, and we read these books to him, he will know that I feel like we went "over the moon" and "through the moon and stars and night skies" to get him.

Although the adoption process and the waiting were hard, it was definitely worth it. I know it all happened with God's perfect timing, and He knew the best time for us to be united with our precious baby. There was a time when I would have said; "I just can't fly." But at the age of 28, and holding tightly to the pictures of my baby, I boarded my first plane for the flight to Viet Nam. The motivation that kept me going was the thought that Matthew really needed his Daddy and me to come and get him. Our trip to Viet Nam was a really great experience that I'll treasure for the rest of my life.

I will be forever grateful to the following for helping us bring Matthew home: Peggy Ewing and WORLDWIDE for countless hours of dedication in helping us become a family; the facilitator and  her staff for making our trip to Viet Nam a memorable one; the country of Viet Nam for allowing U.S. citizens to adopt their babies; Matthew's Vietnamese "grandmother" for taking care of and loving Matthew; and to my travel companions for the many laughs and good times we shared. Not only did we get our sweet babies, I also think we found a unique friendship that will last a lifetime.

If you are considering international adoption - GO FOR IT! If I did it, you can too! I am really glad we went half way around the world to get our baby, and even though we traveled through the night to get him - Matthew will always be our sunshine!
